Bee Curious Workshop
At Backyard Remedy, we offer warm, hands-on bee and nature education workshops designed especially for primary schools, kindergartens and early learning centres. Our sessions spark curiosity while supporting the Western Australian curriculum through real-world science, sustainability and environmental awareness. Children don’t just learn about bees — they observe, ask questions, explore materials and experience the living world up close.
Each workshop is tailored to the age group, building understanding from simple sensory discovery in the early years through to deeper ecological thinking and scientific inquiry in upper primary. We focus on nurturing respect for nature and helping children recognise the vital role bees play in food systems, gardens and healthy ecosystems. Students leave with a stronger sense of environmental responsibility and practical ways they can help protect pollinators in their own communities.
During the session, students explore authentic beekeeping tools and equipment, learn about the role of the beekeeper, and discover the fascinating life cycle of the honey bee — from egg to larva to worker and queen. We also share the story of how bees were introduced to Australia, connecting history, agriculture and sustainability in an engaging, age-appropriate way. A highlight for many children is safely observing live bees inside a secure viewing hive, allowing close observation without risk and encouraging natural scientific curiosity.
To make learning memorable and multi-sensory, students may also enjoy tasting raw local honey and (for younger groups) creating a simple beewax keepsake. These tactile activities help reinforce concepts while giving children something meaningful to take home.
Our workshops are calm, interactive and nature-based — perfect for classrooms seeking enriching incursions that blend science, creativity and care for the environment.
